We truly appreciate our participants who promote our event by word of mouth and by social media.
We also care about everyone's health and safety. We want to tie the two together. This comes into
play as we move into the Fall/Winter seasons with shortened daylight. New this year is that
all 2018 Wattle 5K registrants will receive a referral code as part of the registration confirmation process.
They can share this via social media or via email. Any 2018 Wattle 5K registrants signing up via this
referral code will be tracked to the referrer. Anyone who has people registering for the 5K using this
referral code and achieves 15 referred 5K participants will receive their choice of one of two NoxGear
Products; The Noxgear 360 Safety Vest or the Noxgear LightHound Vest. These will be made available by
the Race Director within 1-2 weeks following Thanksgiving Day. The first 5 referrers reaching this
milestone will receive theirs by Event Day.
Following a year of conceptualizing, designing and testing, and a very successful Kickstarter
fundraising campaign in 2013, Noxgear was born in Dayton, Ohio. The company was founded by Simon
Curran and Tom Walters, two engineers who set out to solve a problem they were personally impacted
by and knew that many others must also be facing. As avid athletes, many of their runs and rides
were taking place early in the morning or long after sunset, when visibility and personal safety
becomes a major concern. Following a nighttime game of Ultimate Frisbee, they knew they needed to
find a way to light themselves up in the field. They were shocked to discover that most of the
current safety gear was simply inadequate and outdated. Backed by the science and driven by
their enthusiasm to engineer innovative athletic gear, they set off to revolutionize the
age-old safety vest. Their innovative line of products now includes running vests, nighttime
sports vests and even illuminated dog harnesses.
